Red Ball Forever rolls a new platformer sequel onto mobile
Red Ball Forever is the new entry in FDG Entertainment's long running Red Ball series. You roll and jump a small red ball through 45 handmade levels, dodging traps, finding hidden coins and pushing physics objects around. A top down world map links the stages, and boss fights against a new villain called The Hexagon break up the run.
The big change from the older games is the look. Levels are now 2.5D with 3D visuals and short cutscenes. Stars you collect turn into bronze, silver or gold medals, which you spend at an in game candy machine on skins and other cosmetics. The developer says there are no loot boxes.
Google Play lists the game as released on October 22, and the store description says it is "fully playable offline - no Wi-Fi, no problem" (Google Play listing). It also supports cloud saves and 23 languages. The game is free with ads. According to the developer, a single optional purchase removes the ads, unlocks all levels and gives unlimited lives, so there is no subscription to manage.
It suits anyone who wants a light platformer for short breaks or a trip without signal, and it is rated for everyone on Google Play. Players who grew up with the earlier Red Ball games will recognise the feel straight away.
