Astro Burn, a cat-piloted arcade shooter, lands on iOS

JoyBit Team ·

Astro Burn is a side-on arcade shooter from indie studio Beyond the Pixels, published by Pixel Doors. Pocket Gamer reported on October 28, 2026 that it is now out on the App Store, about six weeks after the Android version arrived on Google Play.

You fly Astro, a space cat trying to get home, through short, busy stages full of laser grids, falling structures and swarms of enemy fire. Shooting enemies drops temporary power-ups that stack into stronger weapon combinations, and filling a meter lets you trigger a big catnip-powered finishing attack. Each level ends with a boss, and the cast includes mecha pandas and star-firing goldfish.

The game takes its cue from colourful 1990s cute-em-ups rather than serious space shooters, so the tone is bright and silly even when the screen fills with bullets. It already had a full 1.0 release on PC in July, and the mobile versions bring that game to phones; the latest Android update notes an improved interface for gamepad players.

It is a paid game: $9.99 on Google Play in the US and £9.99 on iOS according to Pocket Gamer. The Google Play listing shows no ads or in-app purchases and is rated Everyone 10+ for fantasy violence. Neither source says whether it runs offline, so test it in airplane mode before relying on it for a flight.

Worth a look if you like pick-up arcade action with a challenge, and do not mind paying once up front instead of dealing with ads.
